Understanding pain

It is important that pharmacy assistants have a good  understanding of pain and analgesics, especially is an area staff will get asked about frequently.

Pain is our built in alarm system, making us aware that something might not be right in our body and has different causes. Therefore, dealing with pain is essential as it estimated that 1-in-10 Australians are in acute pain, and 1-in-5 are in chronic pain. According to the Australian Pain Management Association, chronic pain is defined as ‘persisted beyond the normal healing time of about three months’.

In our new exclusive PS training series, you can update your professional skills by simply reading the lesson below and then answering the ten multiple choice questions to receive a Certificate of Completion which you can print!
