Warning: Lishou strong slimming capsules

The TGA has issued a warning to consumers not to take Lishou Strong Slimming capsules

The TGA tested a substance labelled “Lishou Strong Slimming” capsules and found that they contained the undeclared prescription-only ingredient sibutramine.

This active ingredient, which was the active in Reductil, was withdrawn from the Australian market in October 2010 after research found that it was linked to an increased risk of major cardiac events.

The supply of Lishou Strong Slimming capsules is illegal, it says, and the product has not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy. In addition, its place of manufacture has not been approved by the TGA.

The TGA’s investigations suggest that “a number of people” in Australia may have bought the drug online.

Consumers are advised to stop taking the product immediately and take them to their local pharmacy for safe disposal.

TGA advises that it is working with the Australian Border Force to help stop future shipments arriving in Australia and that if Lishou Strong Slimming capsules are detected at the border, they will be seized and destroyed.

It reiterated its warning to consumers to exercise “extreme caution” when buying medicines from unknown international Internet sites.
