Q&A with Marcia Hines

By   |

Singer, actress, TV personality, Marcia Hines recently helped launch free diabetes checks in Priceline Pharmacy Marcia talks about her connection with diabetes, her health; and offers some beauty and lifestyle tips too!

Q Why have you joined with Priceline Pharmacy and Diabetes Australia to be an ambassador for diabetes?

A I’ve partnered with Priceline Pharmacy and Diabetes Australia because diabetes is a condition that affects so many Australians, and many people are also at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

I’m working to raise awareness for the importance of taking care of your health, and I’m urging all Aussies to take advantage of free diabetes checks at Priceline Pharmacy in the hope of reducing diabetes related complications through early detection.

Q Tell us about your personal connection to diabetes?

A I’ve lived with Type 1 diabetes for 30 years now, and I know what I need to do to manage my condition.  That is to eat well and exercise and check my blood sugars regularly.

Q What advice would you give people who have been diagnosed with diabetes, or who are worried they might be at risk?

A Definitely seek professional advice which can help you determine the best way to manage the condition for you. Make sure you look at your diet and how active you are, as exercise can reduce the amount of glucose in your blood. It’s important to find exercise that you enjoy, so you’re more likely to stick with a routine.

When you have diabetes, I know how important it is to receive support and guidance around managing the condition, which is why the in-store checks with trained diabetes advisors at all Priceline Pharmacy stores are so important – they enable people to take control of their own health care for a better health outcome.

Q How does it make you feel to be putting diabetes into the spotlight?

A I’ve done a lot of work to raise awareness for diabetes and I enjoy helping others feel less isolated when it comes to managing the condition. It’s great that I’m able to bring diabetes into the spotlight again, I hope it empowers people to feel like they can take control of their condition, and encourages those who might be at risk to have a consultation. I’m passionate about making managing diabetes as easy as possible.

Q Why do you feel it’s important for Priceline Pharmacy and Diabetes Australia to educate Australians about the risks of diabetes?

A Diabetes is something most people think will never happen to them, but the reality is 2 million Australians are at risk of being diagnosed with diabetes. The more education and awareness there is about the condition and how to reduce the risk of diagnosis, the more chance there is to prevent further cases of type 2 diabetes. For people who already have diabetes (type 1 or 2), education around management techniques are essential for a better health outcome and to avoid complications that can arise from the disease.

Q What do you do to slow down and take better care of your health?

A I try to exercise every day, I eat well, check my sugars and rest whenever possible.

Q Do you believe that health and beauty are linked?

A Definitely, if you’re feeling good on the inside, and you’re taking care of yourself, I think it shows.  A healthy body equals a healthy mind equals feeling good about yourself!

Q Why do you think it’s important to look after both your inner and outer health?

A In my humble opinion, they are one and the same.  Neither is more important and both are crucial to your wellbeing.

Q What is the health tip you live by?

A Drink heaps of water daily.

Q What is the best beauty tip you’ve been given?

A Don’t go to sleep with makeup on!

Q What do you love most about shopping at Priceline Pharmacy?

A The fantastic makeup range and the bargains I can usually find!

Q What are your favourite health products available at Priceline Pharmacy?

A SWISSE Micellar Make Up Remover.

Q What are your favourite beauty products available at Priceline Pharmacy?

A The great range of false eye lashes that are stocked.

Q What is a typical day like for you?

A I’ve been on tour for the past 10 months so there wasn’t really a typical day!  My work schedule has been very full but it was great fun!  Now I’m back, my days will be more measured – time to plan, time to write songs, always look forward to the performance, possibly not eight a week!  I like to catch-up with friends, so being back in Sydney gives me time to re-connect.

Q What is a quirky, interesting fact about you?

A I create mosaics as a hobby and to relax.

Q What is your favourite workout routine?

A Believe it or not, it’s a good long walk every day.

Q What is your favourite song to work out to?

A I don’t listen to music when I exercise, but I do listen to talk-back radio!

Q How do you balance a healthy diet and exercise with a busy schedule?

A Prioritise, manage my time and take my health seriously!
